Prime Opinion vs. 5 Surveys: I Tried Both Survey Sites for an Hour—Which Pays More?

Updated: Dec 2, 2024

Making extra cash online has become increasingly popular, and survey sites are a go-to for many looking to earn quick money. Two big names in the survey world are Prime Opinion and 5 Surveys. But which one gives you more bang for your buck? To find out, I spent one hour on each platform and tracked my earnings, ease of use, and overall experience.

Here’s the breakdown of my results and which platform came out on top!

How I Tested Prime Opinion and 5 Surveys

To make this a fair experiment, I used my existing accounts on both platforms and set a timer for one hour on each. During this time, I tracked:

  1. The number of surveys completed.

  2. Earnings from each platform.

  3. How easy or frustrating the process was.

I also evaluated each site based on ease of use, payout rates, rewards system, and overall experience. At the end, I reveal which site paid me more and whether either is worth your time.

Ease of Use

When it comes to navigating survey platforms, ease of use can make or break the experience.

Prime Opinion offers a clean interface that stands out because of its filtering options. You can sort surveys by best match, shortest survey, or most points. This feature makes it easier to find surveys that fit your goals—whether that’s earning quickly or racking up points for bigger payouts.

5 Surveys, on the other hand, keeps things straightforward. Surveys are displayed with the estimated time needed, but there’s no way to filter or prioritize them.

Winner: Prime Opinion takes the lead here for its user-friendly dashboard and filtering capabilities.

Payout Rates

The payout system is where these two platforms differ significantly.

Prime Opinion operates on a point system:

  • 1 point = $0.01.

  • Surveys typically pay anywhere from $0.05 to $2.50.

5 Surveys keeps it simple:

  • Complete 5 surveys to earn $5—no points, no conversions.

  • Each completed survey effectively pays $1.

While I personally prefer the straightforward rewards structure of 5 Surveys, Prime Opinion offers additional opportunities to boost earnings, like streak bonuses and leaderboards.

Winner: 5 Surveys wins for simplicity, but Prime Opinion offers more flexibility with additional earning options.

Reward offerings

Rewards System

A big factor when choosing a survey platform is how quickly you can cash out.

Prime Opinion:

  • Cash out at just $1 through PayPal, gift cards, ACH transfer, or even donations.

  • The low threshold is great for anyone looking to test the platform without committing much time.

5 Surveys:

  • Cash-out threshold starts at $5.

  • While higher, this aligns with their $5-per-5-surveys structure.

Winner: Prime Opinion edges ahead with its lower cash-out minimum and more flexible redemption options.

My Earnings: Which Paid More?

Here’s the big question: Which platform made me more money in one hour?

Prime Opinion

  • Surveys attempted: 7 (screened out of 3).

  • Surveys completed: 4.

  • Points earned: 318 ($3.18).

  • Bonus: 24 points for leveling up.

5 Surveys

  • Surveys attempted: 12 (screened out of 7).

  • Surveys completed: 4 full surveys and 2 “half surveys.”

  • Earnings: Technically $0 since I didn’t complete 5 full surveys for a payout. However, if we break it down, completing 4 out of 5 surveys is worth roughly $4.

Winner: 5 Surveys edges out for hourly earnings, but it’s worth noting that reaching a payout took longer due to disqualifications.

Overall Experience

Let’s talk about the overall feel of using these platforms.

Prime Opinion felt more reliable and engaging. The filtering options allowed me to find suitable surveys quickly, and the bonus rewards kept me motivated.

5 Surveys, while simple, struggled with frequent disqualifications, making it harder to get into a good rhythm. However, its clear payout structure remains a major plus.

Winner: For reliability and user experience, Prime Opinion takes the crown.

Final Verdict: Which Should You Choose?

If you’re looking for simplicity and don’t mind committing to longer sessions, 5 Surveys is a great option for earning consistent payouts. However, if you want a more engaging platform with flexible rewards and low cash-out thresholds, Prime Opinion is the better choice.

My recommendation? Try both and see which one fits your earning style!
