Yes, you really can get paid to walk. Earlier this year, I tested 7 walking apps and found a few solid ones that actually rewarded me for getting my steps in. But recently, I came across 4 new apps "that pay you to walk," and I had to test them out.
Whether you're a daily walker, an occasional stroller, or someone who just wants to turn their steps into side hustle money, these apps promise cash, gift cards, or rewards for staying active. But are they worth it?
Let’s break down what each app offers, and which one I liked best.

🏃♀️ How Do These Apps Work?
If you're new to "get paid to walk" apps, here's how they typically work:
Download the app and connect your phone’s step tracker or fitness data.
The app tracks your steps or distance and rewards you with points.
You can then redeem points for gift cards, cash via PayPal or Cash App, or even physical items like headphones or gadgets.
That said, most of these apps use gamification and ads to fund your rewards. So yes, you’ll likely be watching a few ads along the way. Let’s be honest… so do most free apps anyway.

📱 1. StepBucks
StepBucks rewards you with “Energy” points for up to 10,000 steps per day. The conversion isn’t exact, but you’ll earn between 2.5 to 10 Energy per 100 steps.
✅ Ways to earn:
Daily steps (log in before midnight to claim them!)
Watching ads
Logging meals
Walking distances or durations
Mini-games and slot machines
💡 They also have a second point system called “Beans,” which you can use to redeem for products like AirPods or a Nintendo Switch.
💸 Payouts:
Starts at 30,000 points = $30
Redeem via PayPal, Google Pay, Cash App, or Visa
BUT you’ll need a Cashout Access Card, which you unlock with another kind of point which is kind of annoying
⚠️ Downside: Very ad-heavy—sometimes even just to open the app.
Verdict: Decent rewards, but the cashout process is confusing and ad overload might turn off some users.

👣 2. WalkTask (My Favorite!)
WalkTask gives you 1 point per 100 steps, and the best part? No daily step cap. You can walk all day and keep earning.
✅ Ways to earn:
Daily check-ins
Games and lucky spins
Completing bonus tasks
Unlimited step tracking
💸 Payouts:
Starts at 600 points = $1 PayPal
Instant 1:1 point-to-cash conversion, so no pressure to wait for big redemptions
Also supports a variety of gift cards
🎉 Why I Love It: Super low cashout threshold, real cash payouts, and minimal ads compared to the others.
Verdict: If you want to start earning money fast with little hassle, this is the app to try first.

🌱 3. MoneyWalk
MoneyWalk is a fun mix of fitness and gamification. You earn 1 point per 100 steps, capped at 10,000 per day, but there are plenty of other ways to collect points.
✅ Ways to earn:
Logging food, water, and sleep
Daily surveys and check-ins
Mini-games and offers
“Money Farm” – grow a tree and earn over time
Walk Battles – challenge other users to 3-day step competitions
💸 Payouts:
Starts at 1,625 points = $1 gift card
No PayPal option—just e-gift cards
Verdict: Great for users who love games and a little friendly competition, even if there's no cash payout.

✈️ 4. GeoSmile
GeoSmile is a bit different. You earn points based on both steps and distance traveled, which makes it ideal for people who commute or travel often.
✅ Ways to earn:
Every 1,000 steps or 1 mile gets you a “bar”
Convert bars to “gems” via ads and scratch-offs
Hourly lucky wheel, missions, slot machine, surveys
💸 Payouts:
Starts at 50,000 gems = $5 gift card
No cash options—just e-vouchers and in-app items like boosters
🚗 What’s Unique: You can earn even when driving, flying, or taking public transit, not just walking.
Verdict: Not ideal if you're chasing cash, but great for passive earners who rack up distance every day.
